Elizabeth V. Primas, Ed.D., Ed.S., MAT & BS, is a member of the Board of the Washington Informer Charities Inc. and a native Washingtonian. She is currently the Program Manager for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) at the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA). Dr. Primas has served as the Director of Literacy and Acceleration at the Friendship Public Charter Schools and has a lifelong history of achievement in teaching and leadership within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), DC area colleges and universities and national educational organizations. Her list of teaching credentials spans over 30 years in the public schools, whether teaching students or coaching her peers. She also taught at the University of the District of Columbia and George Washington University; founded two Literacy and Computer Camps for children in Prince George’s County Public Housing; and was the DCPS Director of Literacy: Reading and English Language Arts. In addition, she served as Teacher in Residence at the Educational Testing Services (ETS), were she led development of the National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading and English Language Arts for Elementary and Middle School teachers.
Over the years, she has received numerous honors for outstanding teaching including: Masonic Scottish Rites Elementary Educator Excellence Award (1998); Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award (1999); District of Columbia’s Teacher of the Year Award (2000). She is a published author on teaching children to read. Throughout her career, she has worked with several organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Literacy Association where she served as Co-chair of the Urban Diversity Commission and coordinated major conferences on contemporary topics in literacy and reading. She is a well-known consultant for city schools, textbook companies and the international professional development of teachers.
She a graduate of the D.C. Teacher’s College and holds a Masters’ from Trinity College and both a doctorate and education specialist degree from George Washington University.
